well usually my car starts right up but lately i have to hold the key turned for a long time... like i hear the starter go about 8 - 10 times before it starts??? it seems it only does it when it has been sitting for a while. like over 2 hours? does anybody know why its doing this? is it a bad starter?

 

Probably not getting fuel right away. Can you here the fuel pump kick on

is your ecu throwing and codes? IT could be throwing codes even if you cel light isn't illuminated on the cluster. Check for codes passenger side under the carpet, look for blinking lights when your key is in the ACC position.

 

speaking of my check engine light its comes on when i drive my car for like over 10 minutes or so.... i donno its weird sometimes it will come on and sometimes it wont??? i havnt cheked my ecu lately...it was throwing a code 20 a while back....electrical overload or w/e but then one day it just stopped so i donno???

 

check ur compression

 

Sounds like a battery/alternator issue..1st thing to do is check the connections,make sure they're clean and tight..

yeah this is true. my old 4 door had a problem like this and i checked the ground to my alt and it was barely on. Thus making it hard to start/ no start. Check that out, MIGHT be the problem, might not.. But wouldn't hurt checking that out.

 

I'm gonna guess leaky injector..after you get it started the first time, does it start right up after that?

 

yea it does...but why would the check engine light be coming on?

Does it crank fast or slow?

Maybe a loose ground or the alternator isn't charging properly.

 

my car does the same thing i tryed my brothers distributor and it started up on a dime but i never bought a new one for my self

 

i checked the ecu today and its throwing a code 1... oxygen sensor or w/e.....i think that is what it is ...i donno?

yeah you might wanna replace the o2 sensor

 

well i tightened all of my grounds and it seems to start right up now! so that is a plus but yea the check engine light comes on after like 10-20 min of driving so im gonna get a new o2 sensor and hoepfully that will fix it.

i have a d15b7 in my crx so what o2 sensor do i need?

also what is the best o2 sensor to buy? does it make a difference in performance?

If you have the stock D15b7 o2 then get a 4 wire heated o2..Densos are pretty good and bosch makes some..(Alot of honda guys hate bosch though) or go to your junkyard and take from any 92-95 honda/acura that has the 4 wire heated sensor.

 

why a 4 wire? why not a 1 wire 02 sensor? the 1 wire will plug right up...

 

Because he says he has a d15b7,thats an obd1 engine..I assumed he's running the car obd1 with the 4 wire heated o2..But if still obd0, you are correct.

i gotcha, but why would someone go obd1 on that motor?...

I have no idea....Its my fault for not reading though,,he said he checked the ecu for codes so he is obviously still obd0..

yea i get this problem too... i just replaced all the all my grounds with 8 gauge ground wires, but i have yet to replace spark plug wires or the distributer cap so might be an issue as well... compression is fine but i do have to click the key to the on position at least twice to hear the fuel pump kick on when its really cold outside.... main relay was just replaced as well
