Hurt motor with too much oil?
Hi guys, I usually change the oil myself, but last weekend it was cold, so I took my car down the street to the local Jiffy Lube. I've been there many times with no troubles.
This time, they overfilled it (the oil level was about 4mm above the upper dot) by probably 0.5L. They drained some oil without questions.
I ran the car for about 5 days before I noticed the problem. In those 5 days, I hit vtec less times than the number of fingers I have on one hand (taking it easy on the winters and my gf drove the car the other days).
Did I do any damage to the motor? I know that overpressure is bad for the main seals and rings.

I would get under your car and drain out some oil. I worked on a 2001 accord 4 months ago because the guy's friend "hooked him up" with a free oil change (and like 6 or 7 qts of oil!). He ran the car for like 2 months with all that oil and finally decided to find out why the car ran like crap. When we took a look at it there was a lot of oil mixed in with the coolant. So, instead of taking the motor apart and cleaning it / replacing all seals, we just swapped the motor because we found a donor for only $400 and then changed the radiator and hoses. Bottom line, Jiffy Lube doesn't know what they're doing. If you don't want to change your oil because of weather or time constraints, I would just go to the dealer or a reputable mechanic shop. Just my $0.02.....

Oil changing is really easy. DIY man, you'll thank us all later.

Thanks for the opionions guys. I don't think I did any damage, but I just wanted to see what your experience was.

i'd just do another oil change. oil is cheap and only takes half hour max. if it's at the right level now, i wouldn't worry about it.
0.5L, big deal. When I take my car on track, we intentionally run the motor 1L overfilled to prevent oil starvation, I really doubt tooling around 1/2 L over is going to make any kind of difference.
