getto rigged ecu?
ok well i aquirred an ecu (p28) that has been chipped. I am not questioning that. I am wondering about this just soildered in wire. It doesnt look right and wondering if it will cause any problems. ecu guros lets go.
first off... DEAR F'KING GOD!!!
that is D5, it acts as a sort of reverse battery protection, basically it shorts out causing the ECU fuse to blow if you put on your battery cables backwards.
Are you using that ECU? I hope not.
Placing a peice of wire in that location will make power - ground connection at all times. pop goes the ECU fuse. I'd bet the previous owner got mad, put in larger fuse, then pop goes the trace on the board. (not a good thing)
Cut the wire, you're better off without anything in it's place rather than a wire.
If you'd like it to be as close to original as possible, repair the blown trace (if it's blown) and replace the diode with a 5amp rectifier diode and it will be fine.
If you need help let me know, I can take care of it for you. All though I'm in chicago. There may be someone local that can help you out faster.

I think I'd try and get a refund for that ECU, if you can. The PGM-Fi site Relic1 linked you to, is indeed a great site.
I personally wouldn't bother dickin' with it...and I work with stuff like that for a living. If that was considered a 'fix' by whomever messed it up in the first place, then you gotta wonder what else was done to it or what else this creative mind tried.
