Just installed a DC 4-1 Header, my car went from sounding like a race car to a rice car
WTF. Is this normal? My car used to sound really badass, now it sounds terrible. I have great acceleration, more top end than I had before, but the sound is really trebley, as opposed to before with the stock JDM B16A header, where the sound was really rich and full, like a race car. It sounds totally ricey now. You know that really whiney dirt bike sound? Is this the price you pay for better flow? Or is something wrong? I had some exhaust leakage initially by the cat-to-header flange, but I replaced the gasket and it is gone now, and my acceleration is back to normal, so I know it's not a leak that's making the noise. So the only thing I can think that it might be is the exhaust vibrating against something. Anyone have any ideas?
yes it is louder with a header than the stock manifold, the stock manifold is quite thick and dampens much of the sound, the dc is quite possibly the thinnest header i have ever seen they use extremely thin tubing, great for weight but not for sound
yea i think that happens with any header that is thin. if you wrapped it in heat wrap it should get rid of that noise

It has more to do with exhaust than anything. I have a DC 4-1 , SMSP carsound cat and 2.5 custom piping going into magna flow res and muffler. Does not sound ricey at all. Sounds deep, For a civic that is.

Magnaflow 2.25" catback with resonator and high flow cat. I don't think it's the exhaust since it sounded really kickass before I installed the header. I think I'll try the heat wrap thing, but it will kill the whole look of the nice stainless (albeit starting to discolor brown) header coming off the front of the engine.

Don't know but most cars I've seen running DC headers sound ricey

the "go-kart" sound is usually an exhaust leak.
the dc headers are made of a thinner material than the cast iron stock manifold, so the exhaust note should be louder.

When i had my Dc header on my 89 crx si it dident sound ricey at all it was so loud you could her me a mile a way. but the sound wasent raspy it was deep. it was quiet when it was at low rpms but right when i steped on it, it was LOUD lol
Peace

i have the same problem, i have airmass 4-2-1 > test pipe > greddy exhaust w/ resinator.... i have more of a gargling sounds terrible be4 i got the header it sounded badd ***. but i think itscuz i dont have a cat
A different muffler might do you right. Look around and find one with a deeper sound to it. Your muffler probably always sounded the way it does now, but the tone was being distorted further up the track in the exhaust. You'll have to match a new muffler to your other components.
One of these might help get you a cooler sound too:

Just bustin your chops man, good luck-
