dude i have no idea i ahve droven this car one time and im just going off what my friend has said all i know is that it doesnt rev past 4k when the pedel is pined to the floor
Try to get some more info from him... Here are some things to start with:
1) is it occuring in Park/neutral, or in gear. If he's trying to redline in neutral, it's not going to happen. There's a soft limiter in neutral that is set much lower than redline.
2) CEL. If he has one, then it probably has to do with the problem at hand. Pull the code, take it AutoZone, the dealership... Just find out the code.
3) Do the rpms slowly stop at 4000 rpm (struggling to get there), or does it seem like it suddently hits a wall?

ECU is in limp home mode and you will need to determine the CEL. You can use the procedure outlined in the FAQ 6th gen 1998-2002 stickey thread. if it has 5 lugs on each wheel it is a V6 car if it has 4 lugs it is a I4 car
