depends on alarm i think. my computer remote can reprogram the new remote. so old one will be useless.
isnt it more safer to change the whole key hole? too much money eh??
isnt it more safer to change the whole key hole? too much money eh??
im not going to replace my entire ignition and all key holes cuz i lost my key that whould cost alot of money, alot more then a key whould cost
i was expecting to pay about a 100 for the key
as for the alarm remote, im not sure on the brand as i can get in the car, the remote, was of course small and black, but had 4 buttons, 2 larger for lock and unlock and 2 smaller for trunk release and panic, they were green and they glowed in the dark, maybe someone might know what brand that is
either way when i get in the car, im goin to look for the alarm box so i can figure out the brand of the alarm and hopefully order and new remote
does anybody know how much these usually run

a device that prevents a car to be started...more specifically in this case a chip inside a key that indicates that it was a key that came with the vehicle. I.e. just makes it slightly harder for thieves to steal.

"Tis better to be thought of as a fool than to open your mouth and remove all doubts..."
01-0720, You should be able to tow the vehicle to the dealership and have them either plug in an HDS to the vehicle and program with a 35114-SY8-A02 key or non-T5 transponder keys. Make sure they don't do it with a 35113-SY8-T5 Key, because they are T5 transponder and the HDS won't be able to re-program the code to the key.

the 35114-SY8-A02 key you mentioned it has the immobilizer in it right? and they whould program that key?
also how much should it cost to have the dealership program the key
because the key you mentioned, i looked on your site and it is incredably cheaper then the one my local dealership is tryin to sell me

exactly, and that's why Len is ---> THE MAN <--- you don't need to know him by nothing more
01-0720, did you already send me an email regarding this? Eric?
If so, here's some information.
There are technically three type of keys for your vehicle.
Option 1: Non-T5 Keys
The first two are standard Immobilizer keys. Their part numbers are 35113-SY8-A03 for the Master/Black key and 35114-SY8-A02 for the Valet/Gray key. These are Honda supplied keys. It's kind of confusing how these keys work, but I'll explain it as much as I can.
1. Cutting the Key: The dealership will submit a key code request through Honda's Interactive Network or iN. Only dealership personel with proper permission can access this information. A VIN is submitted through the network and in return a key code is sent back almost instantaneously. Once the Key code is obtained, the key is then cut.
2. Programming: These keys are inserted into the key cylinder of the vehicle. This requires the vehicle to be present. The HDS unit is then plugged up to the OBDII Connector Interface. The proprietary software on the HDS then programs the key to the immobilizer. (The actual confusing part is I don't think the HDS reprograms the key. Judging by the looks of the Immobilizer Unit and a somewhat decent knowledge of how electronics work, I think there is a code already stored on the key. What I believe happens is the HDS reprograms the Immobilizer unit instead of the key. This explains why all previously existing keys will no longer work with the vehicle once this is done.)
Option 2: T5 Keys
T5 keys are reprogrammable keys part number 35113-SY8-T5. These are Master/Black keys that can be flashed with a new immobilizer code directly on the transponder unit in the key. American Honda do not supply these keys. They are made by a company called Ilco and the machine needed to properly reprogram these keys are provided by that company also. This key requires an existing key with a code to be present. They will not work with the HDS unit.
The key itself is $14.22 for the non-T5 keys and $16.27 for the T5 keys. Depending on how greedy your local dealership is, they will charge you for labor required to cut the key and reprogram. Usually option 2 is less expensive. Option 1 does require towing the vehicle and a labor charge for electrical work.
For HT members needing spare keys. Meaning T5 reprogrammable keys, you will need to mail me your keys along with a photo copy of your Valid Driver's License and proof of ownership of the vehicle and I will charge you only for the key which is $16.27 and the cost to ship the key back to you. I will not charge you to program the keys.
I hope this information is useful.

ok so if i go with option 1 the non t5 keys because i dont have an original, the key is 14 bucks according to your site, about how much is the cutting of the key
becuase i just called my local dealership to clarify an they its 85 dollars for the key and to cut the key, so if the key is only 14 dollars that means there charging me 71 dollars just to cut a key
then they told me i need to bring the car to service and there goin to charge me atleast 95 dollars could be more to program the key
nwo goin by what you tell how they do this, how can they get away with chargin almots 100 dollars just put the key in the iginition and plug a box into the obd2 plug and push a button
thats just insane
im sorry for goin of im goin through type r withdrawl i havent driven her in a couple days lol

Why is your dealership charging twice for the same thing. The labor for "replacing a lost or stolen key" is a fixed time of operation. You take that time of operation and multiply by their hourly rate to figure out the total cost. The labor for "cutting and programming" is already included in the labor for "replacing a lost or stolen key."
What's wrong with your dealership?
What's wrong with your dealership?
thats what i was thinking, i thought it whould all be one price, but there charging me for the key and to cut the key and then a seperate price to program the key
The same damn thing happend to me except that I accidently threw my keys in thrash and the garbage truck took them. Refer to my thread and IM me to find out what I did.
