Default Car doesn't want to start.

I'll keep this brief... Hopefully i'll get some answers.

I swapped in a newer y7 block in my 98 civic about 3 weeks ago.. everything ran great with no CEL's until now. The car wont start on its own, but if I jump start it, it will run fine. There are some electrical problems im trying to get sorted out (my gauge cluster sometimes loses power and goes out). I already replaced the battery and it worked find for about a week, but now its back.

Sorry for the lack of information, but what could be wrong? Im thinking either:
a) Alternater
b) Starter
c) Just some messed up wiring.

you need to check battery voltage, it should be roughly 12v with the key off, and @14v with the car running.

you need a multimeter, and if you don't have one i suggest getting one of the cheap ones they sell at radioshack or autozone - they work fine for occasional use.

if the voltage is under 14 with the vehicle running, you probably need an alternator.

good luck, hope i helped you out

i took it up to auto zone, tried to check the alternator but the battery didn't even have enough juice to get through the test.

im sure its the alternator, but i dont know if its because of the wiring job or if it just plain went bad...

thanks for helping
