Fuel Leak???
I have a 1994 Honda Accord. I've become aware of a gas smell outside the car in the past two days. I see a small organic layer (smells of fuel) dripping slowly (after driving) for around fifteen minutes after I have stopped...volume is not large. It's toward the mid-back left underside of the car. Any ideas what this is? Fuel tank? Fuel line? How pricey will the repair be?
Thanks!
Thanks!
On 5th Gen Accords ('94-'97) fuel tank is located forward of the trunk spare tire well and behind the rear seat foot wells; just about in the vicinity you describe. There could be several reasons you've developed a fuel leak, running over debris on the road, damaged fuel pipe/hose, vapor purge system could have developed a leak etc.
Whatever the possible reason, it calls for putting it up on a lift for a closer inspection - quick

P_Adams,
You seem to know 1000-fold more than I do. I got under there today. The tank looks like it's in good shape. I do see a slow-drip fuel stream coming down from the left upper aspect of the tank (out from underneath some kind of plastic covering). What's under there on that side, and do you know how easy it will be to get to? Fuel pipe/hose? Could the leak be a function of how full the tank is?

I believe you're looking at the fuel pipe protector shield which traverses along the L/S of the tank. In effect Honda picks up the systems piping from the rear of the tank, gathers them together and sends them along the left side of the tank as they progress towards the front.
Here's a linked illustration from Majestic Honda for the sub-system we're talking about. You'll notice how the pipes are run.
The shield you're looking at should be #27. It hides several short lengths of rubber fuel line under there (#20) which could be the sourse of your leak.
