Default ecu stolen

my 98 GSR, was broken into a couple night ago and all the bastards took was the ecu. i called the dealership and they told me that i need this brainbox:

37820-p72-a04

now, i see a bunch of ecu's for sale, but do they have to be an exact match? or do all the numbers have to be the same?

apparantly that is not completely correct. i was told that some years will work and some won't from both the dealership and a junkyard.

i'm sure i could have gotten one for $100 or less, but i needed my car working. some fellow took the time to bring the part to my place and test it. for that reason i paid more than what i should have.

anyhow, thanks for all the help fellas.

you should be happy that's all they took. they could have made out with much more and just left the ecu instead

Agreed. This happened to me, exactly a week later they came back for the whole car. Yelled at them and watched the little ***** run off with an ecu in their hands. Looked 15 or 16 too. Little bastard thieves.
