ohh, sorry, i forgot to explain my situation, i only lost the VIN # plate on the dash, (HINT: driver side front dash), Do i need to tell the DMV? or should i ask the dealer to make me one, or should i just made one exactly the same and put it on myself. thanks
I suppose it could be a problem if a cop sees it is missing. He could ask to see your registration, to make sure the car is not stolen. But the chances of that happening are slim and none. You may want to ask DMV just to make sure there are no laws about the VIN being where anyone can see it.

They (cops) would no it was a fake. That would make them all the more suspicious. I wouldn't try it. Is there a place on the new dash for it? Do you still have the old one? You could drill the rivets out, then rivet it to the new one (maybe). Of course they could probably spot that trick a mile away too. Contact the DMV. That's your best bet.
Ask your states Registry of Motor Vehicles for an advisory. They will more than likely ask you to go to your local police department to have the vehicles VIN Number checked against your registration (proof of ownership). There are aprox 10 different locations where the Vin is located, as well as most major components having at least a portion of it; so the verification shouldn't take too long.
In this state, they issue a label which is affixed to the door frame

couldn't say it better myself.
don't honda have some "waterprint like" layer on the vin tag? just to make it hard to replacate? the older honda vin have a star burst rivet, you could tell it been temper with by looking at the "fin" or the starburst

The Give Away is always the rivits. They are not commercially available; and (at least here in "where's my car?" central) the police are trained to spot a fake.
