31 years old and single. I make $23.00 hr. Let me tell you this. I test drove a bunch of cars, and the S is BY far the best one for the money. If you can afford it you will not regret the high payment.
Just remember insurance is a motha...
$235.00 a month for me. (goes to show you how much I love this car)

If you feel you might not be able to afford the S2000 and upkeep...then you probobly cant. Do yourself a favor and get a good feel for your finances to where you can walk into Honda...buy the S2000 (or finance, whatever way you go) and enjoy the car without the worry of whether you can afford to live, eat and make your payments on time...that is no way to go.
The S2000, while a perfectly capable daily driver, is still a "toy" of sorts...and toys should not come before basic living. Some people put themselves out of basic neccesities just to have a nice car, and that is just dumb...you should be able to enjoy your S2000 with no stress...cant do that without feeling safe before you buy it that you'll have more than enough for the car and upkeep.
Maybe put this plan on hold for a year or 2...the cars arnt going anywhere, in fact they'll be cheaper by then...put yourself in a position where you are safe financially for such a vehicle, have no worries.

I hope it helps you man...seriously, you'd end up hating the car if you were struggling to live period while you had it. How fun would it be to have to work 3 jobs just to afford to put gas in the S2000 just to get to drive it to work...get yourself something decent and affordable, and save some cash...in like 2-3 years, a 2004 (ap2, if thats what you're going for) will probobly be in the high teens...you'll be able to find one certified with less than 50k on the odometer, finance then, have the car you've really wanted...AND by that time, you wont have financed a car you have to keep for several years YET...just in case something you want MORE comes out. You may find yourself in a position of living somewhere where the S2000 would be a chore to drive half the time...if you finance it for 5-6 years new, you're pretty much stuck with it...thats when regrets come in and thats when you'll wish you had just said "Screw it, im gonna wait."
They arnt kidding when they say patience is a virtue...by the time you can easily afford the car, you'll have such an appreciation for it...and you can learn alot between now and then that might help you keep it accident free as well!
Good luck to you bud.

i agree with mike but i personally would do 30% so you can live pretty freely and with a good amount of extra income

Certified won't even cost you that.
I'm 22 and married. 90k a year or so. I have my s2k financed and I bought it used (and certified). Are you looking for a new one or used?
If you can't afford the s2k, maybe consider another car for now. A prelude maybe?

haha maybe the number was 30% of your yearly earnings? either way i think it'd work.

I'm 36, making around $80K/yr.
I paid $16K for a used 2001 S2000 with 44Kmiles, average condition. Insurance is $65/mo.
I waited years for one, playing with Miatas until this S2K found me. I couldn't pass it up.
If you're not sure you can afford an S2000, look into a Miata. They are very affordable, parts (repair or performance) are cheap (25-50% of S2K parts), and you can go just as fast with the right mods. They also retain their value well, so when you move up to an S2000 you can retain most of your money. They are also very fun, but are not as refined as the S2000.

1800 rent is a lot, but that is what I paid in CT. Look into Geico for insurance. They don't seem to see the s2k as a "sports car". My policy went up by 65 a month to add it as a daily driver used to commute.

Yes it is. But I had a DWI in 03. So it is super high until November.
