i was on my way to school this morning, and all of a sudden, my car died, the night before, it smelled like something was burning but i ignored it because i thought it was my subwoofer getting ready to blow out, the car will not start but the starter is clicking, what all could this be? i'm thinking the alternator, thnx for help

 

I know nothing but search to find how to test to make sure your fuel pump is turning on (you can hear it by following the directions).

hey, I'm new here and the same thing happened to me. I was driving fine and stoped at the store, when I came out nothing. It was just a clicking noise right uner the dash, over by the fuses. Like the battery was dead.
We jumped it and it ran fine, then for some reason the car would die after hitting the breaks. Rode home with the e-break . 2 days later I went to start it and it doesn't do it anymore, so I don't know what happened. I got a new battery and got the alternator tested and it's fine.

Now one thing I noticed is that the lights seem to dim/flicker a little for a while and then it goes away. I'm hoping it doesn't do it again. Hope that helps a little.

 

did they flicker in while the car was in motion, or when it was not moving....

 

does the motor turn and not start, or does the motor not turn at all...?

i was driving down the street normal and it just died in traffic, the motor jsut stalled but all the accessories were still on, i try to start it and the motor doesnt turn over at all but it cranks, the night before i smelled something like burning electronics, and my interior lights were dimming when i came to stops, and randomly, i also noticed that the headlights were dimming at stoplgihts, the dimmer is turned all the way up so it is not dimmed at all, checked the timing belt and it is still there, checked the fuel rail, fuel is going through it, also checked the spark, its sparking, so the motor is getting fuel and spark but still not turning over

 

check the rotor. it's fallen off on me sevral times. also check all your grounds for a good conecton.

 

mine did all the clicking when it didnt turn over and i smelt the burnt electronic smell and it was my main relay from my fuel pump came out....so found it pluged it up VERY secrely and it started right up and went home.

 

DAm my motor is the same way still havent fixed it... The car wants to start but it doesnt.. I think its my starter or altnator. Cuz when i tryed to jump it with cables the headlights would flicker and die out. Then i tryed to Jump Start it, by pushing the car and still no turn on. HElp me...PLz

sounds like the ignitor on your distributor may have gone out?

 

have you inspected your ignition? Take off the plastic covers that cover the igntion, and check the solder joints to the igntion. I have seen two CRXs do this. The car would start okay and the just die after a electronic burning smell and light smoke coming from under the dash. Then after a few minutes the car would be able to start after the solder joints had cooled down and the contat was reseated. If you take off the plastic cover s and see traces of solder on the lower cover, thats a sign. Compare all the joints, they should all be pretty bulky joints.

 

samething happen to me...my car die while driving in the freeway..it crank but won't start..found out my distributor was fry up

 

ok i found it my timing belt just jumped a few teeth, thnx!
