the most wonderful day evar...my car died so help me please
ok this morning i woke up and started my car. i usually do this every morning because its freaking cold in wisconsin around this time of the year. anyways this morning i started it and it was fine. 10 minutes later i go back to the car and get ready to leave. i got finished buckling myself in and then i notice that my pioneer deck is kind of dying on and off. then my rpm gauge and speedometer suddenly just die at 0. i was like WTF??? i pop the hood, check most of my fuses. i turn on the key and listen for the fuel pump, i can hear it. then after all that i tried to start it again. the starter clicks...like the sound of electricity snapping. i took my moms car to school this morning. someone help so i can get my civic on the road again. its a 95 if that would matter. im thinking new battery or maybe my alternator died causing a dead battery.

do you think a dead alternator would lead to a dead battery?? remember i started the car 10 minutes before it died.

It's very possible, the car would still want to crank if the battery was good. The alternator keeps the car running once it's running.

Due to the fact that the car started in the cold and then died, I'm gonna go with bad alternator.

ok the car was running but everything was dead...i decided to kill the engine because something was wrong. so im guessing its the battery like the guy said. it was pretty warm too because i could stand outside for a good 10 minutes before i had to go inside from freezing. well what should i go after first?? battery or alternator? what kind of battery should i get?

see if you can borrow a battery (that you know is good) from a friend, just to determine if your alternator works.

I agree. But I'm betting its your alternator.

Generally when your gauges go haywire or just die it is absolutely your alternator. When you try to turn the car over and it makes a clicking noise there is power getting to the starter just not enough.
On a side note when an alternator goes bad it is generally in the winter being that it is cold and everyone is using all their accessories ie heat, defrost, window defrost etc.

why not jump the car and get a multimeter and see how much power your car is making when it runs. if a LOT less than 14V then your alty is done. I'm betting on a new alty as well btw

yup battery. after you change your battery you should have the battery charging sys tested with a real tester so you know how much your alternator is puttin out. voltage will only tell you what volts its charging but you will not know how many amps..

"who had traveled nine miles to neighboring Marshfield in order to "find something to do" Saturday " ...yep. thats Wisconson, lol. The onion is def one good thing about Wisconsin.
If your car doesn't run, pull the alternator and go to a napa that tests them. Hopefully you have access to a heated garage - its not warmin up any time soon here.
