Default Quick Newb Tranny Question

Alright guys I've got a 93 Si, with a Z6. Well awhile back I changed my pass. side cv axle and lost a lil bit of fluid. Well, afterwards, I could not find a place to put anymore fluid in. So, I found a place that looked as if it would work, and put like maybe half a drink can in, because I didnt lose that much fluid.

Well heres the problem, now my 3rd gear grinds when going into gear, like a day after the axle install. Its always from 2nd to 3rd, and only when accelerating. I can shift into 3rd from 4th an its ok. Ive never had any tranny problems before which leads me to believe its a fluid problem and not a synchro. Well I decided to check the fluid, and I only found one plug, so I took it out and let it drain, under the impression it should be level with the bolt threads. So I let it run out untill I can feel it with my finger. I let it run for a moment, and shift around while sitting still, everything seems fine. Well it still grinded 3rd...

I need help!! Im so not wanting to replace a trans, and I really dont think its a synchro but im a newb to trannys, so help me out people!!

so you dont know exactly what hole to put the fluid in? There is a filer bolt on the side. your right the fluid should be up to your finger but from the side, like horazontal.

Well yea, I found that bolt, and drained it to the correct level. But I guess im wanting to know how to drain it completly so I can put some Honda MTF in it. Once I change the fluid then I guess it would have to be a synchro.

So basically Im asking how to change the tranny fluid completly...That would probably be my best first step.

thats the well know mistery grind, mine did it for about a week, then it stoped, i changed my fluids and eveything, but it just went away on its own, ive heard of quite a few people experencine it. try adding some lucas trans fluid additive, mines has a kaaz lsd in it though so i run 80-w90 fluid, expensive to change

Yea I did some searching early, but never really found an answer except that its the synchros...

Like I said before tho, I've never had any problems with the tranny, and I just want to change the fluid, how to I take out all the old fluid?

on the side of the trans towards the bottom is a plug with a square type opening for a socket or something. You will notice what I am talking about as soon as you see it. Un do it and it will allow all fluids to come out... the easiest way to fill the trans is to take the vss off thats the little box on top of the trans take the 2 10mm bolts off remove the vss get a long funnel and fill it up with 2.3 liters of fluid thats what the z6 trans takes. Good luck sometimes the trans are tempermental and they just give out.

If you only were in so cal

Try some synchromesh. I had a cold grind in 1st, used MTF, nothing, used synchromesh, and it went away. But it definitely sounds like a synchro. Also, try rev matching it, shouldn't do it.
