I have an 03 accord coupe, and the book said to check the gas cap to make sure it is tightened. I've done this including removing and replacing it however the light still remains.

Anyone know what else this could be? any help would be appreciated. Thanks so much!

 

What are you geeting for alarms? You might have to stop by a shop and have it hooked up to the puter!

 

The light will not go off immediately. It will take a couple of drives to make it go off. The little plastic cable that holds on to the cap (if you drop it) can easily get trapped between the cap and the fill pipe. It made my light come on, but it did go back out. Give it a day or so. Read the owner's manual on the subject.

 

Oh okay, the light didnt go on until a week after i filled up gas tho.. is that a normal amount of time for the light to go on?

 

Did you notice if the plastic cable was stuck in there before? It could be totally unrelated to the cap. Do you have any warranty left? Probably not. Maybe you could get AutoZone or someone else to read the codes for you (free). See what it comes up with.

 

No i dont remember if the cable was stuck.. im guessing if it was the light would have came on earlier rather than a week after i last touched it.

there's still about 5 months left remaining in the 3 year warranty i believe

 

ok so i took it to the dealer today since it's still under warranty, and they mentioned it was the 0xygen sensor.. part wont be here until a week from now...will it be fine to use for short distance driving?? (work and back)

 

As long as it doesn't start running bad (and it shouldn't) it will be fine.
