2000 Accord Malfunction light wont turn off
I was driving down the road the other day and my engine malfunction light came on. I read the manaul and it said that my gas cap might be loose. When i went to tighten it i did realize that it was so i closed it tight and let it clisk like 5 or 6 times to make sure it was closed tight. The manaul said it would take 3 driving trips before light comes off but that was like a week ago and its still on. I even tried doing the reset on it and that was bust also. Any ideas how to get this dam light off without taking it to the dealer and paying like 100 bucks for something i can do myself? Any help would be appreciated!!

if you know for a fact it was the gas cap, you could probably just unplug the batter of teh car, and reset the ECU. but if it comes back, then it's probably something other then a loose gas cap.

Get them to tell you the code #, not just the guy's description. Then look up the code in the list. There's a good list stickied to the top of the Integra forum. Better yet, post back with the code # because those 4-word descriptions can be kinda cryptical...

the code would be P1456 and to clear this by itself it would take 80 trips for fuel related codes. you can reset your ecu then it would start to do the self test such as the EGR,Catalityc converter,Oxygen sensor, and the Evaporative system but this done while you drive if when the ecu does the Evap test and everything is ok then it will flagged COMPLETE. don't know if autozone's scanner can do this check the monitors(onboard tests).
