Where does your 5th gen Idle? And a door lock question!
My 97 EX 2.2L 5-speed is unsure where to idle at. 90% of the time, after warmed up, it's at 650-750. The engine is smooth and you barely hear it running. 10% of the time, it'll idle lower, around 500rpm and you can feel some engine shake in the steering wheel and seat. I just did a fresh tune up and there are no faults in the system via my OB2 scan tool.
I cleaned the throttle body of all the excess carbon, but that didn't help. I also reset the ECU by pulling the fuse for a few minutes. Any idea's? I don't think it's a vacuum leak because it's so random. Could this be a faulty coolant temp sensor? No faults in the system, but I'm open to idea's.
One other question, when you unlock your doors via the drivers side front outside door lock, do all your doors open? This seems to work on the passenger side, but no the drivers. Is there a "dendent" that's needs changed inside the door?
Also, is keyless entry still available for these cars? Is it plug and play? Anyway to tell if the car HAS keyless already installed?
I've been an Audi tech for 6 years, and so far...I LOVE THIS CAR.

Chances are that the shaking at low idle is coming from the worn out engine mounts. My car has 160k on it and the mounts need to be replaced soon. Its a common thing to occur with the 5th gen for the engine mounts to wear out and cause the to shake at idle. Most honda's idle around 750rpm. It will start at a higher rpm when you first start it in order to warm up the engine. Try finding someone that knows how to adjust the throttle cable to give a slightly higher idle.
When you open the drivers side door you have to hold the key for a few seconds to open all of them. For the passenger side I believe that turning the key will open all of them. I cant remember though since i never open the car from that side.

I believe the keyless entry system came as an option (believe it or not)* in the '97 EX, and standard with the '97 SE.
Your locks are operating normally. Even the Keyless Entry System unlocks the drivers door first, the second trigger unlocks the passanger door. Locking the doors is altogether different. The lock command (either Keyless or via key) will lock all doors at the same time.

Like everything Honda does, the Keyless system is a plug & Play.

Oops, sorry, didn't see that part. 700rpm, every day of the week. Dips momentarily when the cooling fans turn on or the A/C engages, but it always recovers to 700rpm.

Is there anyway of telling wether or not It's installed in the car? Is there a control unit mounted anywhere under the dash I should be looking for? If not, can the control unit and fobs still be purchased though a Honda dealer? Thanks for all the help!
