So I did a quick search but I am short on time (gotta go to work).

The muffler on my 89 DX Hatch crapped out (it's gone) and I am wondering if only hatchback mufflers will fit it? I see Intergras of about that year and the mufflers look the same except for the dual tip, and same with the some of the Accords (where the exhaust comes out on the left) and Si hatches. Will they all fit too? I am heading to the wrecking yard to yank one for cheap tomorrow so it would be nice to know what to look for. Thanks a TON! (My ears are dying and I need a quiet car!)

P.S. And I have been told many times to just go get a new muffler or exhaust but I don't have the funds for that, so I want a cheap fix for now.

if u want a fairly easy fix, get the magnaflow oval (ebay) and have someone bend two pipes weld them and install it into your car

 

Do you know how much it would cost for the bending of the pipes and the welding. I am not in my autos class anymore so I can't use any of that equipment, which would be nice.

 

Also... Will that magnaflow sound loud or ricey? I just want something that doesn't attract attention. My friends 89 GTI has a flowmaster and that thing is loud. So I am hoping to find a pretty quiet muffler to do just that... Muffle. Haha.

 

Anyone? Muffler list?

If you don't want loud just pick up a cheap universal $30 muffler from any autoparts store. Have a local shop put it on for like $60 or so, or if you really want to cheap out buy some clamps and some piping and clamp it like a ****.

 

The integra ones do not fit, just get one off of a civic hatch.

I have a thread in here about universal mufflers. I got mine for $25, and it looks stock to the general population.

I'll grab a pic this friday as I am swinging through town of the (somewhat) finished product.

Just have one mounted to the engine side of the exhaust, and buy the 90 degree pipe from checkers and weld that on the end and voila, new exhaust. The 90 degree is going on as soon as spring break allows me to get home and weld.

 

Sounds like a good idea but I don't think I have access to a welder. I will research that one though. Thanks.

 

autozone sells a turbo II muffler and it`s cheap . it`s a chambered design and it`s very quiet. like 25 bones or sumtin.

 

yeah, go for the universal muffler route, it's custom and labor for bending and welding will only be around $50

 

A little more than I was hoping to spend, but I guess it beats a half rusted junkyard muffler. Thanks a ton!
