From those who know about this kind of problem...how serious is it? I understand what the EGR does, but I don't know how vital it is.

How soon do I need to fix it?

I've noticed that I've been getting slightly worse gas mileage lately too...are they related?

Oh, and yeah my motor is an H22 if that makes a difference.

only effects smog. won't have any impact on performance.

 

x2, emmisions component. wont hurt anything except mileage.

 

it does actually serve a purpose besides emmisions. obviously gas mileage, it only activates at steady, cruising speeds, so it doesnt affect performace, and it cools the combustion process. yes i know, EGR, exhaust gas recirculation, but its true. plus those exhaust gases take up the space for the air/fuel, which then increases MPG.

depending on how bad it is, i have seen it cause problems after being run for a while. as in melting a hole in the piston. rare, but possible.

they arent too expensive, so just replace it as soon as you get the chance.

This would explain why my gas mileage has seemed to have slowly gotten worse over the last couple months...
