B16 EF want to go turbo!
I gotta obd0 B16 in my EF and I gotta T3/T4 turbo kit for it, and I dont know enough about turbos to get it on just yet, first off, has anyone ever installed this kit and are there any tips or tricks for installation (like when I had to bang out my subframe for the B-series alternator clearance) Second, Am I gonna blow this B16 up? What engine internals need to be upgraded to turbo-ready my B16? Could I run the turbo kit on my stock engine? 5 psi? 10? what is a T3/T4 capable of? Do I need a turbo timer? Recomendations on a boost controller?
Before you turbo it do a compression test to make sure the motor is healthy..As long as you get it tuned it will be fine..Ive seen and know people around NJ that have +350whp on stock B16 motors..But they're tuned well and they run 93 octane..You dont really need a turbo timer,,I mean is it that hard to sit in the car for a couple minutes before you turn it off..?
What turbokit do you have anyway?

Got the engine from a personal friend of mine, who had had the whole engine checked out after he got it from H-motors online, the engine was healthy as can be but my friend still got all the gaskets and stuff replaced, now the thing is almost brand new, and I just snagged the turbo kit off ebay cause it was cheap, heres the item number for the same kit If you wanna take a look 8044262992. So your saying I can have the kit put on, and then just go get it tuned, will they have to send away my ecu and stuff or can I drive away from it? whats the max psi I can run for a daily driver with stock internals?
Ok I jus went to ebay and found out you bought an ss autochrome turbo kit..That was a mistake man..sorry to tell you..Those manifolds are complete garbage and the turbos are trash..Intercooler,piping,downpipe,bov,and wastegate are decent though..
You have to get the ecu socketed and chipped..Have a tuner burn a custom program onto a chip that goes into the socket..You cant go past 10psi on the stock map sensor..Check out http://xenocron.com and http://pgmfi.org for info on ecu mods and tuning..Also you have to decide if you want to stay obd0 or go obd1..For obdo I recomend turboedit...For obd1 I recomend crome or uberdata..
Or you could always use an fmu with inline fuel pump ..But you cant really go past 6psi or the fuel pressure will be rediculous..Tuning the ecu and getting bigger injectors and bigger intank fuel pump is much better

I didnt expect it to be top of the line for that price, but its garbage? that kinda sucks, whats bad about the turbo and the manifold? well I guess I could just not use it and sell it for what I got it for...
Well the manifold is poorly built and cracks everywhere,,even if braced..The turbos have a 2 piece compressor housing which can fall apart..And Ive seen in person these damn thing blow seals with in hours..No lie..
Really if you want a cheap good manifold check out cc-fab.net..And for a cheap good turbo you can find rebuilt t3/t4's by garrett and turbonetics for around $350-$400..

Well Ill put the turbo and the manifold back on ebay for sale, Ill have my Wyotech buddy build me a nice manifold. In the meantime ill be looking for garrett and turbonetics turbos. thanks man

Then save up a buy a decent turbo that wont crack or blow seals constantly, a good turbo would be a Garrett turbo. I have never dealt with Phoenix Turbo, but they got a good rep on this board and you can get discounts on their products through this board. Get a decent manifold as well. Something like a full race or neukin. Don't ever go cheap on your engine parts! This is extremely true in your case, 'you got what you paid for'.
Don't even think about running an FMU. Run turboedit. Run this **** right. You don't want it blowing up. Get a good tune. A good tune is key to reliability and drivability. Also, get som DSM 450cc injectors. Get an upgraded fuel pump as well. B16s can handle 300whp. If you run 6-7 lbs on a t3/t4 depending on trim size, I have no idea what hp you would hit. Something like 250ish? Not sure.
