Default Oil leak

Hi, I just joined you guys. I have a question I hope someone can help me with. I have a '96 Accord LX 2.2 4cl and I have had an oil leak for about 2 weeks. I took it to the dealer friday and they said the oil pressure switch was leaking so they replaced it for me. However, they also said my oil pan gasket was leaking but they wanted $300 to change it. I could not see paying that much for them to change that. So I decided I will try and do it on my own. Is there a reason it would be so costly? Is it hard to get to or something? Any help on this would be greatly appreciated. Thanks Jay

Not as easy as you might think. The exhaust pipe and cross member have to be moved. Sequence for tightening the bolts is important. Need new gasket, rtv sealant, and some 3M spray glue would help too. If you are going to do this yourself, I would suggest spraying liquid wrench on the exhaust bolts the night before, because they can be a bitch to get off. Good luck.

$ 300 dollars is a rip off......the labor is about 2 hrs. so depends on their hourly rate you do the math.. the gasket about 25 dollars , the honda bond is part of shop supply .if the oil is new , reuse it if you need oil 4 qts ,6 dollars?. total should be around 200 if that..
