Piston and ring questions
These are probably going to seem like stupid questions, but I need to know. The car is a 2000 Civic Si with the stock B16A2. Last summer, the motor started running like ****, and all signs point to bad rings. But due to money/personal problems, the motor is just getting fixed now.
First, can you replace pistons/rings with the motor still in the car?
Second, is it possible to reuse the pistons, and just replace the rings?
Finally, any idea on what it would cost to have a shop do this work for me? I don't have a garage, and would really like to just get this car out of my hair for a while, while I work on my new project.
Any help I get would be greatly appreciated.

did u do a compression and or leakdown test??
if not then how the fek do u know?
and yeah u can change pistons/rings with the motor in the car. And yes its possible to reuse hte pistons just rplace the rings.
this all depends on how bad ur cyl walls are,
IF it is in fact the rings thats at fault. the more u drive it the more they'll tear up ur cylinders.
if its not too bad, u can just hone the cyl walls and install new rings and ur done.
if it is bad, u have to have the block bored, and get matching overbore pistons/new rings..

I did a compression test, and all cylinders were ok, except for #3 which was way down. From the way the engine was running, and from the compression, everyone I talked to said it was a bad ring.
