OT: can i see some pics of a stainless steel header......
......after they have been on the car for a while. i wanna see what kind of nasty colours they change into that everyone keeps talking about.
also has anyone ever managed to use some kind or metal polish to bring the original shine back?

Hell yeah, I used Eagle One metal polish and it removes all the nasty colours and the nasty film. It's available at your local Crappy Tire (Canadian Tire) 
Here's my header after more than a year, and it still shines like new after polishing:

You can get some stuff called Blue Job at http://www.blue-job.com It takes away all the blueing that can occur.
