Default Wheel Hp

I don't know a whole lot about cars yet but I do know that the advertised hp of a car is not the actual hp. So what is wheel hp and what is the hp that you see advertised. Ive searched high and low and haven't found anything so any help would be appreciated.

HP, as specified by manufactures, is simply flywheel horsepower. In other words it's measured directly at the engine. It IS actual horsepower, although some manufacturers may underrate or overrate the power.

WHP is simply the horsepower measured at the wheels. WHP includes all drivetrain losses. Another way of looking at it is that this is the power that actually reaches the ground. If you could figure out a way to reduce the drivetrain losses, you would increase WHP without actually increasing the flywheel HP. Still with me?

front-engine, front-wheel drive vehicles typically have the least amount of drivetrain losses. Rear-wheel drive cars have more. All-wheel drive cars have the most. This is just a general rule of thumb.

So... the main difference between HP and WHP is where the power is measured at. At the engine... or at the wheels....

The difference between flywheel and wheel horsepower is usually a 10-20% loss, most commonly around 15%. This is lost during the transfer of power from the engine, through the drivetrain, and then turning the unsprung weight such as the wheels and brakes

for the 6th gen V6 accoords the wheel HP is approximately 158HP for a loss of 21%

a maual trans car will usually come in at 5-7% less loss.

Automatics today and in the last 10 years are much more efficient than the previous models

number is little low

FWD manual should see a 12-15% loose

RWD 18-20%

actually those numbers are for the entire drivetrain and all accessories that are (except A/C) running when the engine is on. Those are not trans only #s.

sure, i couldn't know for sure, but that just tipical number.

21% low, that's on the high side, i bet there's something to do with the faulty transmission also. Look like honda still can't do the auto transmission right, the V6 auto tranny is crapping out again in ridgeline.
