Default maintenance light?

On the guage cluster there is that little light which can be green or red. Beside it, it says "maintenance required".

my question is.....what does this light indicate and what color should it be when everything is alright?

mine has been red since i bought it(never thought anything of it) and just yesterday it turned green.

thnx

What car are you referring to?
The Maintenance Required light indicates that it may be time for service such as an oil change. Check your owner's manual on how to reset it.

If you hold in the trip button and then turn on the key it will reset! This is set for 7,500 miles to go on!

If its an early accord you have to take a key and push that little colored button(the green/red light), and it will reset it.

If it is a 5th gen accord you have to insert the key into the little key slot near the guages

its basically there to remind that once the color changes you need an oil change. but only cause it changes colors due to the miles

on 5th gen cars the color will remain green for 6K and turn yellow after that. Once it reaches 7.5K. It turns red.

Basically it reminds you to change your oil and do a visaul inspection of your car. Every other time it changes to RED, it's time for some other things to be inspected and repaired or replaced as needed.

To reset the 5th gen there is a button to the right of the indicator that you insert the key into and it resets.

On the 6th gen car, hold the trip odo reset button, turn the ignition on and after 2 seconds release the trip odo button.
