Default 12:1 compression ration safe on 93 octane?

I know you can do 11:1 C/R on 91 because thats what compression ratios stock ITR have. Now I was wondering if 12:1 C/R would do just fine on 93 octane. I am aware that I have to upgrade my cooling system(oil cooler, water pump, etc.) Tuning is not a problem also. The engine is a d16z6. Thanks in advance. Actually I just want to know what is the highest compression ratio you can run on a d-series with 93 octane(with tuning if necessary)?

IIRC Ive seen in the AllMotor forum that yes, 12.0:1 CR is doable on 93 octane. I dont know what the generally accepted limit is on compression for that gas though, you might try in that forum, much more likely to get an accurate answer

I ran 12:1 on California 91 octane in the summer with no apparent problems.

Thanks alot guys. I'm no longer worried about detonation. Also anyone else. What are your C/R and what gas are you running. Anymore insight and reliability issues. I would like to hear from you.

I have a build im thinking about for when im not part of the 'broke as hell crew' - still in the research phase...
-all oem (for now) and it should give me somewhere between 10.8:1 and 11:1 depending on if i get any head milling done. Ill aim for tuning on 91 (damn crappy cali gas)

Thats a drop in the hat. I did that with my old b18c1. Made 190whp too.

I know the gas wont be an issue.
190 will be a far cry from where Ill end up- the idea im toying with is a vtec-e based D. y7 block, y5 head, pm6 pistons. Since the y5 head is the exact same as the y8 other than the cam structure, its going to basically be a high-comp minime with a6 pistons

Ill be happy with 135-140 full boltons...

If you are planning on doing it in California, I would say scrap the whole idea now before you get the "shocker" on the smog machine. That high of compressioin WILL cause the NOX readings to go up. Maybe not too the limit, but high. Trust me, I sold the CTR pistons after I went to the ref

Hey, I didnt shoot holes in your plan...
That had not even crossed my mind though, thanks for pointing it out.
There will be time for that when/if I move somewhere else.

I know a guy that knows a guy that works in a smog shop, so if i pick up pieces for cheap and tinker, I should be able to test and tune until I get a good idea of where this will end up. If there is no way it will pass, ill swap pistons to lower CR a bit and give it another go.

At this point its only an idea, eventually it will be only a project. Not all projects work out
*edit* To the OP- dude I completely hijacked this thread, Im sorry

I'm not shooting a hole in anything.. and my "plan" is fool proof, so no worries. I have dealt with the state on many occasions. Reffed many swaps. Was just trying to get you a heads up. You won't need to ref what you have, but you should also be aware the head/block combo is also illegal as well. Fines now are starting at $2,500 + impounding the car. There are a LOT easier ways to get power from a D and still stay legal too. Just trying to help.

No I completely understand, and I am very grateful for your help. I'll just have to rethink how I want to go about this so I can stay within the confines of stiff-*** laws. The wheels of Honda-Mischief are already turning... :evil smile:

Im glad FL doesn't even check for emissions. Atleast not that I know of. The only thing you usually get harassed for is your quote// "modified exhaust".
