I took the solenoid off cleaned the screen and everything around it...still nothing...when I get on it and take it up to high rpm's where vtec should kick the check engine light keeps comming on...if I go hook a diagnostic machine up to it will it fully tell me the correct problem? or anyone have any other suggestions would be appreciated

Check the connections to your ecu. I just went through this exact situation and I had to repin some of my wires(all the ones involving vtec) going to the ecu. Good luck.
