Default advance timing?

hey everyone, i am wondering if there is a way to get to my flywheel to more accurately advance my timing. i have a 94 gsr, with a 95 b18c1 engine. my friend has a 93 prelude and he can advance his timing and has a rectangular opening to his flywheel which helps him see how many degrees he can advance his timing, but when he tried to do this with my car, there was no rectangular opening to my flywheel. so my question is of those of u with 94-95 gsr(obdI) tegs, where is the opening to the flywheel?

I don't know how much more accurate your way is going to be compared to the 'normal' way. I've never even heard of anyone that measured timing from the flywheel. But even if it possible, I guarantee that you won't feel it anyway. The most gain I've ever seen on a dynosheet due to advancing timing was ~3whp (which you can't feel anyway and could be within error tolerances too). So if your talking about being more accurate by about, let's just say ~.5deg, than that it may/may not equate to maybe .5wp either way. Just advance the timing the normal way.

is your friends car an auto? I believe the autos have that rubber plug on the trans, manuals don't.

My brother's manual transmission'ed '96 Prelude Si has that opening on the transmission. It has no identifying marks on the crank pulley, so you have to set the timing using the flywheel.

Since Integras have crank pulley marks to set the timing (and no opening in the tranny to check the flywheel), I'd suggest setting the timing the "regular" way -- with the crank pulley and a timing light.

Good luck.

no stupid.

on certain hondas, and perhaps other cars, the timing marks are on the flywheel instead of the crank pulley.
