Default steering problem

I had to change the axle out on my 90 crx dx. Ended up changeing the lower ball joint and the tie rod end. got everything back together and the play in my steering is ridiculously loose. I tightened everthing to spec. It's not a loose tie rod end. I don't think its my bearings cause they weren't bad before I changed the axle. does anybody know anything else?Do you think if I took it to get an alignment that it would fix the problem

why would the syeering rack just go bad like that? it was just fine before the axle change. You don't think it could be anything else?

did you remember to tighten the locknut?

did you get an alignment? perhaps youre too toed in, it makes steering effort go down dramatically.

are you talking about the crown nuts? No I havent got an alignment yet. What do you mean by too toed in? I was thhinking I also changed the rubber boot on the steering thingy(what you attatch the tie rod end to). If that thing got spun around to many times could that affct the play in the wheel?

does your steering feel loose when your drive or do you actually have free play in the steering wheel. if it feels loose i'd say get an alignment, your probrably toed in too much which will make it feel really squirmy, if you have alot of free play i'd try to adjust the rack. theres a big lock nut with a 14mm nut in the middle of it on the rack, right below where the steering shaft enters it, loosen the big lock nut and run the 14 mm bolt in until your steering has tightened up to your liking, hold the 14mm in place and tighten the lock nut back down.

It doesn't feel loose when I'm not moving only when I drive. So you think an alignment would fix it? What do you mean by too toed in? Is this typical when changing out tie rod ends, ball joints or axles
