My crank pulley just broke into 2 pieces! WTF?!
So I'm driving along, and all of a sudden I hear this rattling inside my engine bay and I think "oh expletive" and pull over. I pop the hood and the first thing I see is the alternator belt hanging on the alternator (motor is a JDM H22a by the way). I look down at the pulley and it looks like it's crooked!
I get down on the ground to look under the car for a better view, and the damn outer part of the pulley came off of the "inner" part. I had no idea it was even made like that, but sure enough there is an inner and outer part. The outer one being very thin and has the grooves for the belts on it.
Anyone ever have this happen to them? Scared the **** out of me. Now I gotta try and find a friggen pulley....

hey dude what you are saying is kinda confusing...
But anyway...is the bolt/nut for the pulley still there or did it come out with the pulley?

The center of the pulley is still bolted to the engine. It's only the outer ring with the ribs on it that came off.
Weird huh.

i have had this happen on an accord. The harmonic balancer (crank pulley) is a 2 piece pulley joined together with a hard rubber material. That material can come apart and allow the outer pulley that the altenator runs on to just slip and spin. It is a pretty strange thing. Fortunatly, i wasnt going down the road when this happened.
