hey guys.. im having an odd problem.
i did a tune up on my ef, plugs, cap/rotor, grounds, new battery terminals, alternator belt, oil, filter, and thats it.
I drove it for 5 mins and the ****** ran 200% better. Smooth as silk actualy.. then when i was at a light the rpms flucated and she died on me. Now it cranks, cha cha cha cha but won't start.
I have a small ammount of oil on the 4th firing plug. what could be wrong, and what steps can i do to start trouble shooting. Im gonna go check for spark now. Thanks

k i took out plug #4 and put it on the exhaust manifold and the chrome bolts ont eh valve cover for a ground nothing.. i think something is wrong with the ignitor, it has a small crack on it.. but that crack was there before.. i dunnnnnooo
That sucks. So it cranks hard - not a charging system problem right? So you can rule out the alt belt & batt terminals as a problem. Oil/filter/plugs can't really go wrong.
I'd make sure those grounds are all nice & tight, and recheck the rotor set screw, those can be a bitch sometimes.
So you removed the whole plug to check for spark? I usually just pull the wire & use a screwdriver to ground to the valve cover but I guess that would work too??

check your dizzy. pull it off and try and pin it. if it does not spin it bad. check the ignitor as well. It sound like your dizzy for sure.

how can i check the ignitor/coil, also.. here's how i checked for spark, i put a breaker bar with a spark plug socket in the 4th chamber, then put a screwdriver(phillips) into the plug wire, then left about 1/4th an inch from the two, maybe shorter and cranked
cha cha cha nothing, couldn't see a spark, but this is broad daylight, i dunno...
also, i smell gas, plugs feel flooded lol
also, the rotor screw is on, rotor is fine, cap is fine only a day old

MY ef died at a stop sign and I pulled out the trusty manual to find testing the coil and the coil did not get good results. Went to checkers dished out 90.00 for a new coil went home installed and started right up.
