i just got a 1990 accord dx, 5 speed, for $400
i backed out of my driveway, and and i couldnt get it into first so i had to start in second
but when i pulled it into my driveway i stopped for a second, and tried putting it in first again, and it went into gear.. what could this be
The kid just told me u have to put it into reverse first... why would i have to do that

does it only do it when it's cold (the engine and the weather)? If it does only do it when cold, mine does the same thing. Just let it warm up before drving it.

well actually i just went to pick it up before, the kid just started it today for the first time in a few weeks, then we drove it about 2 miles back to my house, it sat for like 5 minutes then i went to drive it, and it did it
and its like 5 degrees out

The transmission could be filled with an oil of a too thick a viscosity*, or the teeth on the 1st gear syncro rings could be worn rounded from too many rolling reverse shifts into 1st. It doesn't sound like a clutch issue.
P
* This will be borne out if the condition doesn't re-occure until it cools off again
