The bolt that holds my camshaft sprocket broke of inside, how do I get it out? I think its to tight for an easy out. I can't get a good angle to drill it out either. I dont want to take of the head or the camshaft out. What should I do?

 

Drill it out. Its alot easier if its in the car because it will be held down. Just start small and move up in bits.

 

you need a reversible drill bit. it spins the other way and in the process grabs the neck and pulls out the bolt. be caureful man. chances are your going to have to get a new cam or take that one to a machine shop to pull that neck. good luck. take your time.

 

Do you think it would be easier to just get a new camshaft? There is one on ebay for 40$'s. I don't know if I want to spend alot of time trying to drill out a bolt

For 40 bucks I would replace the cam. Drilling out is difficult and you would damage threads before you removed enough material to remove the broken bolt.

 

There is a machine shop around that can melt the bolt out for like 35$'s. I've been looking around and can't find a cam anywhere except ebay and I don't wanna wait 2 weeks for it to get here. anyone in the DC area have one for sale? I think I'll just take it to the shop

You should inquire how exactly they plan to "melt" a bolt out without over heating and possibly damaging the cam itself.

 

ever heard of an EZ Out? It's a nice tool that grabs the broken bolt to remove it. fisrt you have a drill a hole in the bolt to put the EZ Out into it. Then you just spin the EZ Out counter clockwise. It grabs tighter as more force is applied. It works because the threads are backwards from a reg bolt.

- THE DOWN SIDE -
You have to drill a hole in the bolt. Bolts are very tough things to drill. You'll need a sharp bit to drill a starting hole for the EZ Out. Here's a pic of some EZ Outs.

melt the bolt out do you mean an edm machine that would do the trick with out hurting the cam

 

dont take it to a shop and do not buy a camshaft off of ebay. camshafts and headers are possibly what requires the most engineering and thats why they are so pricey. that 40 ebay **** is not worth it. pull your cam out and take it to that machine shop. or spend 200 bucks and get a decent cam that will make you a little more power. dont use ebay to short yourself, unless your buying an intake.
