Default 3rd gear problems

Ok well to make things short basically my LS transmission began to have the notorious 3rd gear grind. Then it started to not want to go into gear...and now at random, there may be a grind, it might go in, if it does it pops out of gear ect. Problem is only with 3rd gear. Is it the 3rd gear synchro or gear or both? and is this expensive to fix? worth it?

I doubt it is because of your short shifter. Mostly likely it was the synchro and is now both, don't quote me on that though.

most likely.
see, shortthrow shifters are really worthless. they burn up syncros in a matter of time.
they really only increase your shift speed .000001 seconds faster than a stock shifter would. buy a OEM shifter and get that trans fixed or find a used one.

I seriously doubt it was your short shifter. A short shifter doesn't "burn up" synchros; but a driver whos shifting before the revs drop is putting extra wear on the synchros.

hahaha

do you even know how a transmission work with shift linkage?
the short shifter won't have any negative effects even if you are comparing it to an OEM shift

get that **** out of this thread, don't post crap you don't understand.

NO the short shifter won't cause your transmission 3rd gear to grind.
If the gear is poping out, it's most likely the synchro won't hold it's spot and have the gear held in...the teeth the synchromesh construction will possibly be warn down that it will just slip out.

Sounds like you need to replace the clutch, perhaps it's just the throwout bearing. At any rate, just replace the clutch

doesn't look like it to me. if anything, it's higher, but do tell us, why would that affect synchros anyways?

ok you see the shifter all the way to the right? the chrome looking one? thats the ONE I have... its supposed to be a b&m and I have also noticed that the ball sits higher than the stock one... my tranny had this shifter on for 6 months

like i said my 3rd gear is now completely gone wont ''lock'' in, if i push really hard you can feel it try to but just grinds to all hell no matter how I shift, or when i shift, its done period... another question is my friend told me to get a gsr or b16 tranny because they have dual synchros whereas the LS has singe synchros, I want to know if this is true or bs and what tranny should I get? I am going up to noyan usa tommorow to buy a transmission if they sell them seperately... oh yeah and i have a b20vtec

That short shifter is Evasive Motorsport's dual bend for any inquiring minds.
