Default Odd smoking problem.

I'm looking to buy a car i haven't seen from a guy out of state, we're trying to figure out what's wrong with the car. He said it's always smoked a little on start up, i figured no problem, just the valve seats, but he started it before selling it to me after it sat for months and it used two quarts of oil in 10 minutes. He's been running it and now the smoking isn't as bad and he says it's driveable. I'm not sure what it could be, he thinks headgasket, but i don't see it burning oil like that, it'd be using coolant too, he didn't say anything about coolant mixed with oil or it getting hot. I'm prety sure it's the rings, opinions?
