Default turbo and vtec

someone explain to me why ppl do ls/vtec swaps and putting turbo on top of it. isn't turbo and vtec basically the same concept? vtec kicks in at a certain rpm, so does turbo. wouldnt the turbo just override that vtec? is it because vtecs tend to have higher redlines?

The vtec system is designed to allow variable valve timing. The vtec head flows more efficiently than a non-vtec head, and is better suited to handle the airflow of a turbo motor. Check out this link to see how vtec works...

Both are performance enhancers. If you are trying to build a faster / quicker car, why not use all available avenues?

They are not the same thing, so there is no cancelling the other out. They both work together.

definitely not the same thing... Vtec kicks in at a certain RPM level and changes the timing of the valves and camshafts....turbo is a form of forced induction... instead of air being 'sucked in' by an intake or airbox (naturally aspirated or N/A), a turbo spools up your exhaust, cools the air in an intercooler and is forced back into your intake manifold... you need to search/read!

when vtec activates, oil pressure from the seleniods lock up the rockers on ur cams to the biggest lobes. the biggest lobes pushes the valves more than normal allowing more air to pass through the head and into each cylinder. Adding a turbo would just make everything sweeter!

Two different concepts. Read the posts above and do some research into the theory/purpose behind forced induction and what vtec does.

i read in one of my super street magz about the pro am integra, and when he was running all motor with a b18c1, he was running 12's and he couldnt get lower, and now he has a turbo set up, and runs 9's one of the fastest integras in the world.

but there is no replacement for displacement

personally i like the all motor

one reason people choose the ls block is because it has a bigger displacement then any other b18 out there..i think by 100cc's more..and if you get a good tune with a b16 head or gs-r head..you will be really fast.

its actually 37 more cc's if it were 100 it would be called the b19

b18c=1797 cc
b18b=1834 cc

I just thought I would post and say that no one flamed this guy! I can't believe it!

Like everyone else is saying, VTEC and Turbocharging are two totally different things but both are great in their own right. You should mix the best of both worlds, B16aT or D16Y8t!!!! HAHAHAHAH
