rattling shifter
i installed a short shifter a long time ago, once i was done it didnt rattle drove fine for months, i got rid of my exhaust that i had which was a 2.5 piping to a muffler, well once i switched back to stock exhaust i noticed that my shifting was very tight and it woudl rattle like crazy while driving. i just got energy suspension shifter bushings that i installed and they work great but now my shifter is vibrating the higher i bring my rpms and when i'm crusing the vibrating is ridiculous. has anybody else had a problem like this at all? i heard that with the bolts around the shifter area would make it ratttle if tightned to tight? i'm not sure, hoping someone could help me out thanks
i'll try that, i just dont understand how all ofa sudden it starts to rattle like crazy, now i noticed that once i took of my exuats and put my stock piping on that it started then, i checked to see if maybe the shifter was resting on the exhaust and it seemed like it was so i tried to rest teh hangars alittle lower but no luck, but yesterday when i did the bushings i noticed that it didnt seem like it was hitting but when i put it into 5th grear i can feel a rubbing and it seems tough to get into 5th like soemthing is in its way

you could have knocked around the shifter while replacing your exhaust... I took my exhaust back to stock, my shifter rattles around, too.... I'm gunna dig around in there this weekend... I'll let you know if I find anything useful!
thats what it loked like before i did the bushings, but when i was under there it really didnt loook like it was touching, but then again i could be wrong, i wishi had a lift so i could start it up and rev it out to see what exactly is going on but i dont have access to that good stuff, its funny how i went back to stock so it was alittle quieter and to sell some stuff and now i have problems but i didnt before haha

What brand is it? I had an off-brand one in mine for a while and that would rattle all the time, with stock exhaust and when I switched to the Airmass Thundermuff catback,I checked a couple of times and it wasn't hitting either exhuast system.
My fix? Replace it with a DC Sports shifter

LMK what you find... I'm thinking mine is either bad bushings or something is rattling he bottom of the shifter...
ironic as well... this wasnt a problem with my 3" catback... took it back to stock, sounds like hell... sounds funny doesnt it?

most likely it's those O-rings. My shifter(evasivemotorsports) supplied their own little o-rings. however, they weren't large enough to dampen anything. The bearing would have metal to metal contact with the shifter. So I ended up taking the o-rings out and using the much thicker stock o-rings. Might want to check that. As for why it suddenly started doing this after putting ur stock exhaust back...I dunno.

a little off topic question. When I installed my short shifter I removed the boot that was around it, it was on so tight I had to remove it with a screw driver and pry it up. It ripped and I haven't purchased a new one, that's just a dust boot right? and doesn't contribute anything to the way the shifting feels?
Sorry for thread jacking but it is someonw relevant I think

When you buy a shifter designed to fit both an integra and a civic, the inserts that you put in to make it fit civics tend to make the shifter rattle.
