I was on the way to see my girlfriend (2 hours away), and I was driving normally, then the car started to make random popping noise, almost like a backfire noise. No check engine light, oil level is good, coolant is good. I recently changed spark plugs about a month ago. ONe thing that I noticed was that since I bought the car I was getting horrible gas milage. Please help, I am stranded now.

when's the last time you changed your fuel filter? what kinda spark plugs you used???

 

could be the timing is too advance. advancing timing beyond the recommend point will cause poping noise. hope this help.

 

sounds like it was leaning out, will it run/idle at all or did you kill it.
