I did a lot of research and there seem'd to be a lot of suggestion on how to bypass the situation. Well the situation is this, i have a 96 Civic Hatch. In the process of finishing up a B18B1 swap. Friend gave me his B18 header and when i was about to put it on today i realized it had NO spots for the O2.

From researching, it seems to me that even if i do get a B18 header it will only have a spot for ONE O2 sensor. If I am correct so far let me know.

It that is true it also seems that I will need to install a cat or something after the header then MAKE a spot for the SECOND O2 sensor? Thanks guys im so close last thing holding me up. HOpefully the damn thing runs when its all put together....

 

any exhaust shop can very easily add an o2 bung to whatever you need for pretty cheap.

 

Yea actually i just thought about that, I could probably do it myself, Drill a hole find a nut with the right threading and weld it on. I could do that to the header easily, but for the secondary O2, doesn't it need to be placed after a cat or something?

 

Yes to be done correctly the seconday goes after the cat. But in reality it only checks to see if the mix is better. If you take the second o2 and tie it up somewhere safe in the engine compartment where it's not touching anything that will work also.

 

Wouldn't that cause my engine to run rich or something? Or will I not really notice a difference

 

How will my car run with the secondary O2 sensor tied up in the engine bay?

Another question is since im making the O2 bung myself on the headers, should i make the one for the primary closer to the engine or farther like most other headers where it requires me to extend the O2 sensor?

If i had a muffler shop make a setup like this will i get a cel? oR should i just have them make one near the top, and tie up the secondary in the engine bay. Im going to need the header welded to connect to the exhaust pipe. Do muffler shops usually have cats available to be added? Anyone help?

you need to run one on the header, and one after the cat to still pass emmissions in CA. If you have to take your car they are going to make sure you have both O2's hooked up. Just weld a 2nd bung and hook the 2nd O2 up. Besides who wants parts ziptied to their car anyways. Do it right.

 

and yes a good muffler shop should have everything you need to add a cat and get your header installed.
