mechanic shop help
i was told you have to lift the car, to remove the transmission and do it, i don't have lift. any one done it before that can help me? I'll pay for your time and beer
if you have a floor jack or two, a good set of hand tools (including a clutch alignment tool) and a willing and able friend you can do it in your driveway.
na man, that's just labor, i don't want to do it myself, because i have no knowledge of how to do it, stuff like that should be installed correctly. but 400 bucks for labor is way too much
your not thinking of the education, the amount of tools the mechanic has invested and the overhead a shop has not to mention the cost of insuring a shop 400 is a fair price to do a clutch job you dont know **** about pulling a tranny so how do you know its too much ? .. thats why i dont understand ht ... so many people just want their car fast or blingging but dont want to pay for it ...
quit bitching or learn to do it yourself

why am i being flamed by this dude, man if i have a huge *** lift and stuff, i'd learn how to do it myself. shops are over charging people for freaking 3 hour job, that's how much an hour? 100+ an hour, even computer programmer don't make this much, i used to have a friend that can do it for me for 200 but he quit the job, and now we can't use the shop anymore. 200 sounds reasonable. I can tell that you are probably from some weird shop like midas that mess up my car over and over again, midas cheated me, mess up my cat and still charged me to put on a stock cat price when they put on a universal that don't even fit right. and you tell me those price are reasonable?

$400 that's about right. I mean if you are so smart just do it yourself. Techs have to dump **** load of money on tools and they deserve just a big if not bigger pay check as normal people. So if you wonna bitch just do it yourself.
see people like you and me understand this... im a mechanic i pay pretty much $120 in tools every week and i've been doing this for 7 years, it takes a lot of money to get the jobs done, so yes we have to charge to keep up, if you wanna bitch do it yourself, or just pay to get it done right the first time. Im not trying to be an A$$hole but its the truth.

You can do it, it's really not that hard and it will be a learning experiance.

But what they said was true ^ I actually pay a little more I end up spending about $250 a week for goodies.
Oh yeah and that a pretty good price, we charge about $600 (part and labor) at our Honda dealer $80/hr

$80/hr is really cheap too. Around here independent shops charge that much. Dealers charge as much as $110

Here you want a good deal. Go to your local perfomance shop. Specializing in hondas. You will get the quickest turn around and will run you prolly $100-150 cheaper. They do this so much, they don't really care. It's like a fucken oil change.
But still I know a guy that pulled his trans out in 30 degree weather, outside, in apartment complex. why can't you do it puzzles me. First time if you are not very skilled shouldn't take you more then a day.

reason i don't want to do it, it's because i don't want to mess it up, i do my own brake and other stuff that don't require to move the transmission. once I mess it up , and it gets crap up while driving, it can cost me my life. it never makes sense to charge so much to do work, people charge 200-300 to do brake, when i don't have to spend more than a hour to do them. it never ever makes sense. even if you need the tool. for example. people that do eletrical work, they don't charge you crazy amount for their tool, and most of their work is hands on. they come to my place to do 2 weeks worth of work for about 1k, that's alot of work, and the tools they use cost them **** load.

I feel bad for you people (mechanics like you), at the where I work, most of our stuff is snapon, the wrenches are mostly craftsman though, and we don't go through 250 bucks worth of tools a week, we're lucky if we have to buy a new tool once every month....
I don't know how the tools for you guys just "die" like that...craftsman lifetime warranty, and even the snapon **** lasts awhile

its easy to do.. u just think its hard because you havent done it yet. changing your own brakes is probably just as dangerous if done incorrectly. to be honest you have 3 choices. do it yourself.. pay someone to do it. or just junk the car.
lmao some of us have a little bit more than $200 in tools and as for me i have over 30k just in tools all snapon and mac, no sears ****, and there is always new tools that come out that make the job alot easier. but we're getting off the topic here. if you don't wanna pay, do it yourself just grab one of your friends(with some knowledge would be nice) and just start cracking on it, it really shouldn't take you more than a day to do it, those cars are real easy to work on. and if you have any problem let us know we'll walk you through.
