Any speaker options for a CRX?
This is my first post in this forum. I read the FAQs. I searched and found one post about a guy fitting 8 inch mid bass speakers.
I have an '89 CRX. I put OEM speakers in the rear and a pair of Sony Explode 6.5 in the doors. I have a later model Honda CD HU and the sound SUCKS!
What do you guys recommend for 6.5" speakers?
Are there any speakers with half decent bass that will fit in the rear area?
I'd like to keep the OEM style HU and add a 4 channel amp.
It would be nice to have a little bass, I know it wont sound like 15s but right now I have nothing at all.

Well, the front speaker mounts will accept a standard sized 6.5 inch speaker fairly easily (you may have to cut off the backing). And there is certainly easy enough to install even an oversized 6.5 inch in the back mounts. As for anything larger, it is probably possible to get even an 8 incher in the back. But it is going to be a fairly custom installation. As for getting decent bass, it is probably not going to happen with a mere 6.5 inch. Then again, I don't know exactly what you might consider acceptable. As for getting decent bass from anything, it will probably be necessary to fabricate some kind of enclosure for the speaker. You would possibly do this with some MDF or even sheets of plastic.
I think an amp should be my first upgrade too. I'm pretty sure bass needs watts and the head unit has no watts.
I have a set of Bose 8 inch in-wall speakers with a 50watt amp on my home TV. It sounds awesome for only two 8 inchers.
There's a set of Bose 6.5 car speakers in the used pile at the local Circuit City. I'm thinking of buying them and a 4 channel amp to see what that gets me.
I'm not aiming to be one of those guys who when their car drives by all you can hear is the rear wiper vibrating but right now my Mom's OEM minivan system bumps a lot harder than my little Rex.

Since when does bose make afterarket car audio? </TD></TR></TABLE> They have off and on for years, I can remember a long time ago, 20 years or so, the hottest piece of car equipment was an under-dash Bose "processor" with "spatell control" [spelling] only around for about a year.
I don't know of any aftermarket car audio now though, and the Bose site does not mention any.

ive got a set of Infinity Kappa 6.5's and a new panasonic HU 4 X 50.
Ive also got a kicker amp, it came with a sheet that says 760watts certified power or whatever
Now I dunno where to mount the kappas, front or back.
I also have a set of slim 6.5' panasonic like 180watt speakers, fairly cheap but dont really distort at all, should I use these or would they just hurt my system?
Im basically just like the original poster, just want a descent sounding system
What should I do

Now that you mention it, they're Polk. I had the two confused, mainly because the home 8"s sounded so good I was thinking about putting a set in my car.

do some 8 inch midbass drivers or subs in the rear, build enclosures for em. itll rock and I garauntee u ull be happy with it.
get a decent 5.25" comp set for the front doors or 6.5" depending on the speaker basket u have (my crxs was 5.25") and run it all with a 4 ch amp.
I always wanted to do this with my CRX but never got the chance. I did it with my friends RSX instead and it rocks.
