Default AWD Wagon Tranny Issues

Ok heres the skinny...

Recently swapped a DOHC ZC in my 89 awd wagon, installed a new Exedy Organinc clutch kit with new t/o and piliot bearings, The swap went fine and started up without a hitch..The problem is i originally had no pressure on the clutch pedal and i could not get the car into gear after it was running (would go into gear fine with motor off)... i adjusted the clutch cable and got all the slack out and now the pedal pressure is fine, But i'm still having trouble getting the car into gear..

i can start the car in first, and being forceful/putting the clutch pedal thru the floorboard i can get it into 2nd/3rd/4th/5th, so im pretty sure the throwout bearing / springs are fine...is my clutch cable shot? wrong pressure plate? any ideas anybody?

DId you replace your pilot bearing? A bad pilot bearing will make it difficult to get the car in gear when the clutch is disengaged because it keeps the input shaft spinning.

It seems like your pressure plate is not fitting right, or the springs in the diafram
are not getting engaged all the way. Ive seen it happen before.
just throwing out ideas...

i had a awd zc dohc wagon before! it seems like yyou have problem with the flywheel/clutch/bearing? take your tranny out again, check your pilot bearing, clutch disk, and flywheel bolt (dont over tighing them)

Im located in S. FL.

It was doing this before the clutch swap, it just wasnt as extreme. Everything was torqued to spec. so I do not think over tightening was an issue.

The 2wd and 4wd use different throwout bearings. Did you get the right one?

2wd: 22810-PL3-005
4wd: 22810-PH8-008

Sounds like either bad pilot bearing or you didn't torque the clutchcover on correctly, In addition I would double check to make sure your shiftlinkage is not binding or if the "bitch-pin" is loose/not fully installed, loose linkage is about f'ing impossible to shift correctly.

On my old awd wagon,I put a new clutch in it.It was doing kinda the same thing your is.I took it back apart and took it back to the part store and it turns out they sold me a clutch kit for a 1.6 si motor.I got the correct one for the awd and re-installed it and it worked fine.I think the the si pressure plate wasn't strong enough to support the awd.The clutch disc has the same part number as the si,but the pressure plate is DIFFERENT.You might want to try to use a pressure plate from a awd wagon.I know you might have to buy a part store replacement but my wagon did the same thing yours is and putting the right pressure plate in fixed mine.I was pissed, because I told the guy that it was a awd wagon and he sold me the wrong clutch because he went off the motor size(1.6) instead of listening to me.(I don't want to say any name(Advanced auto parts)though. You would think though that using a good aftermarket brand it would support the awd tranny....Hope this helps.

Make sure you have the proper pilot bearing! Having the right parts from the start helps out.

I had a rough time with my clutch in my prelude. It was right off the ground and it would scrape my flywheel when it was pushed all the way in. All I did was re-allign it and adjust it to about 1 inch of the ground and it solved all my problems.

Check your cable again, maybe even replace it. If you had DPFI and now you have MPFI get the 1.6L clutch cable.
