My friend bought a prelude, and after he bought it the check engine light comes on. The kid that owned it before him said it comes on because he put a new japenese motor. Could this be a problem with the ecu? from usdm to jdm? something else?

 

go to autozone and have em run the codes. then you will know whats wrong

Autozone can only check lights on obd2 cars 96+ I ddnt see what year engine he put in. Something to consider.

Yeah they wouldnt be able to look up the code. Best bet is to go get a haynes manual. It should show you how to get to the ECU, check the code, and decypher it. My CRX haynes was like 14$ no big deal, and you have it for later references too.
