Default cracked windshield: what's a reasonable price?

Hey all, I have a brand new crack on my windshield from a flying rock. (they exist!)

What should I expect to pay for a new windshield, installed on-site w/ new moulding?

So far I've seen $305.

There is a place in Chicago that was pretty cheap. Actually it was in Summit. I got a rear window for my dad's van when a tree fell through it... and they had some good prices. I forgot the place's name... IM my friend Brandon @ badboypd1. He refered them to me first.

It's hard to quote a price over the "world" wide web and make it valid where you live.

What I would do is call around and get the price with the understanding that you will provide the factory trim. Order it through Majestic Honda.

Make sure that all the quotes are for the same thing. When I had my windshield replaced (I don't remember the cost) you could get it with or without the tint along the top. There was also PPG glass (better quality) or glass of a less quality.

What you buy is up to you, but make sure what piece they are quoting.

Kitchener Ontario:

Cheapest is $219 without molding, 269$ with.
Highest one is 279$ without molding, 359 with.

My windshield is a spider web...I'll take a picture.

I paid..
I think $130 for my CRX about 4 yrs ago.
$110 for my 87 Wagovan a little more recently, both good jobs.
$300?!?! I thought everything was supposed to be more expensive in southern CA!
Keep flippin through the yellow pages I guess.

Yeah...I hate asking for a ballpark price for anything on H-T because there's always someone who says something like:
I got my new windshield for $12. It included new molding, tint strip. The guy offered bullet proofing for another $8 but I was too cheap."

My insurance company offered no deductible windshield coverage for an additional $2/month. This way I can get the best replacement (there are different levels of quality) for no money out of pocket.
Like most things automotive, prices are jacked up for insurance claims because they know they'll pay. Of course, the average insurance company just passes the buck to you.

Just by calling around, I can't find a replacement for less than $220. I talked to a buddy who is a service rep at a local Honda dealership. They have a glass guy they use regularly...he only charges them $140 and does it on site. The quality is obviously there since they pass it off as Honda quality work.

South End Auto Parts put in a new windshield on my crx. It cost $130 parts and labor for a new windshield! Man did I get a deal

<edit> I guess i'm not the only one who got my windshield done for under $150. lol I always double check to make sure my hood is latched now don't want to go through another windshield. <edit>

You live in da Chi...I would let my fingers do the walking...
There are a few places that are decent in price...but are shall we say
located in "very urban" areas. While i was there i never paid more than
$150 max installed for a winshield. Grab the yellow pages and make some
calls. Now this was taking it to them...how bad is the winshield? Yeah I know
its one of CPD's pet peeves (instant ticky)...i was pulled over right outside the glass place once because of it..

hope this helps.

Thanks guys! great responses

I'm going to put a call into my insurance company and see what if anything they can do then start making some calls.

So the question now is.....Tint strip at the top or not?....hmmm

One of the funniest things I've ever seen on honda-tech.

BTW, I got quoted $360 installed recently
