I have a 93 civic hatch, and the car starts idling between 1000 and 1500. It bounces between this range. The check engine light does not come on until you drive the car about 5 miles, and at this point the idle gets speratic. I have let the car warm up for variable times, and the light will not come on untill you drive the car about 5 miles. Car drives fine, no loss of power, only difference is the check engine light and the random idle. Any ideas? The speedometer works randomly most of the time and I did pull the plug out of the transmission to look at it, but did nothing and just replaced it. Any adivce is appreciated.

Thanks for the info, I am going to follow this evening. My engine does not surge until it is warm. Will this fix this same problem?
