o2 sensor HELP
I just bought a 96 civic dx hatch. 96,xxx miles. Suposedly it needs an o2 sensor ( guy I bought from says that thats the code that the ecu flashes). I don't know much about cars. I DO know that there are 2 sensors that it could be. I went to honda heaven in san jose and bought a used one for 75 bucks. My friend told me I am an idiot and now im starting to beileve him because my check engine light is STILL on and I've tryed to disconnect the battery for 30 mins and it still wont go off. I was wondering if its because it was a used one or should I change the other one too. Its really agrivating. Please don't be rude and try to help. thanks a lot.
and another thing.... how much does the 90k service cost? I really want to do things right with the car. It consists of a timing belt, water pump and? again thanks a lot.
well if its still throwin a cel, then take it to your local autozone or whatever and have them test the code (its free)....it should tell you which one it is, cuz i did that and they were able to tell me primary or secondary, i think one costs more than the other. as for your other question, not sure.

You can use a secondary oxygen sensor as a primary with no problems...at least I was able to. I am not sure if they are different part numberts. I do think honda will try to charge you more for a primary than a secondary though.
Anyway you need to check the codes either by going to autozone or doing it yourself. If I were your friend, I would call you an idiot too. I personally NEVER buy parts until I know exactly what is wrong. It might not even be an oxygen sensor at all. I personally wouldnt go off the judgement of another guy who sold me something.
