Default Computer Swap?

Hey guys, i havea 92 civic cx with a dx head(meaning it has 8 more valves than stock), so what i was thinking, i have HORRIBLE acceleration, is there sumthing in the computer still programmed for the stock CX head, that is differant than the DX........ could i put a DX computer in, and it will have the performance of a DX?

Let me know, thinkin about buyin a computer from a DX if this will cure my NO ACCELERATION problem

I'll be nice for for fellow IL people.
questions like this usually get flamed or simply left alone. searching the site for questions like this is highly suggested.

the "computer" you refer to is called an ECU.
yes there is a difference between the CX and DX ECU as far as fuel and ignition settings, but if you switch to the DX ECU you will need a 4-wire O2 sensor.

You're best bet would be to chip your P05 (CX ECU) with the P06 (DX ECU) fuel and ignition maps so you can keep your one wire O2 sensor and not have to add the three wires, one of which needs to be run through the firewall to the ECU.
If you were closer to chicago I could take care of that for you in an hour or so.

One question for you.... is your check engine light(CEL) on?

it should be fine, my bro did the same thing a while ago but instead he used a 91 civic si non vtec head and ran a dx ecu and the check engine light only came on when it was cold, but when it warms up if you turn the engine off and turned it back on, the check engine light shut off....

also it made a big difference in the way the car performed, cx ecu sucked....also if you havent yet swap out the cx intake and exhuast manifolds for either ex or dx ones and you'll be set for a 17 second car....

sorry, i cant help you much b/c i junked my stock cx motor for a b16.

so i'm not really sure what motor came in the dx model, but just look for an intake manifold for the dx motor since that is the head you are running.

hopefully you are not planning on getting much out of the stock cx motor. as far as performance is concerned, because it takes some work to actually get a SOHC motor to make good power. just an FYI.

good luck

any "mugen" chip is virtually worthless, it will probably cause your car to run rich which may help your acceleration a tiny bit but will kill your mpg.

BTW Mugen only made a few "chips" and they came in ECUs wrapped with mugen sealing tape. I've seen a few of them.
Anything you see on Ebay is just the stock setup tweeked by the guy welling them. It costs less than $5 to make.

I can hook you up with a bin for your car to run off a chip but I don't have any chips to sell.
maybe if someone on here has one they would like to sell you with the bin in it....

What exactly is a BIN.... and how much would you charge to chip it?

First, I would just get a DX/LX ecu and go from there. If it runs fine like he said:
<TABLE WIDTH="90%" CELLSPACING=0 CELLPADDING=0 ALIGN=CENTER><TR><TD>Quote, originally posted by Slow_import &raquo;</TD></TR><TR><TD CLASS="quote">

it should be fine, my bro did the same thing a while ago but instead he used a 91 civic si non vtec head and ran a dx ecu and the check engine light only came on when it was cold, but when it warms up if you turn the engine off and turned it back on, the check engine light shut off....</TD></TR></TABLE>

Then cool. If not, then just convert to 4-wire O2 sensor. Oh and the tranny too, the cx one sucks.
