Default motorcycle muffler design

Any ideas on how the funny shape before the muffler affects performance?

The basic idea behind an expansion chamber is to use the momentum and pressure of the exhaust gases to create a pump that squeezes more air and fuel into the cylinder during the intake stroke. It does the same sort of thing that a turbocharger does, but it does it without moving parts.

As the piston moves down, it uncovers the exhaust port first to let most of the exhaust out. Then it opens the intake port to let fuel/oil/air in. With a correctly-tuned expansion chamber in place, two things happen to help the intake process:

As the exhaust gases expand into the expansion chamber, they create a vacuum at the exhaust port. This vacuum pulls fuel/oil/air into the cylinder.
As the shock wave of the exhaust pulse hits the end of the expansion chamber, it echoes back, pushing any fuel/oil/air that got pulled through the exhaust port back into the cylinder.

NO HE DIDN"T ...I DID He had no clue what I was even doing.I bet he still doesn't know how or why it works.
And the pipe up at the top is from a Go cart. Looks like an 125 shifter cart pipe.

Randy, get off of you high horse!

I am sick and tired of all these posts and claims that you built my car, my engines and my program.

I valued you as a good fabricator, who thought out of the box, just like I did. Together we explored many facets of exhaust pulse tuning, and I was willing to try and expand on many discussed theories.

One discussed theory was the expansion chamber: did not work at 1st, but on the 3rd try it worked. Do you remember who suggested the improvements, and explained why it worked?

Knowing you, I expect a strange and self-serving reply.

By the way...I need my deposit back.

Bisi.First Lets straighten this money deal out.How much did you give me? I think A couple hundred bucks. The only reason you never got any money from me is I haven't seen you.OK now you are out of your mind if you think you had anything at all to do with that can.I have been making those for at least 20 years now. The
first one was on a XR 750 dirt track Harley. The first one for a Honda car was on Chris Whitfield's car .Remember?Way before I ever even met you.Now you honestly tell everyone here one thing on your CRX that I did NOT make.Like the rear axle, breaks and alum. rotors. The roll cage,The alum. motor mounts, the pedal assembly and steering,The alum. cross member,The intake manifold,The headerSSS ,The wheelie bars,The NACA ducts in the hood.
And allot of it was for free or I should say SPONSORED I guess.
I know how you love that pat on the back. But Jeez give credit where credit is due.
Well go ahead and try and turn this around as usual. Everything I have said is the honest truth.
