AEM EMS base map will not work on my 2000 prelude
Hey I have an AEM EMS 30-1020 that I just put into my 2000 prelude. I loaded the base map for the prelude but the car will not start. It rolls over and catches a little and then stalls. Any suggestions?
Pull fuel or add it depending on if you are running rich/lean.
That's a start. Also, if you do not have the right injectors chosen in your calibration it will not fire up.
Honestly, installing the unit is going to do no good for you. Wait until your tuner is ready to tune the car. Otherwise there will probably be area's in the map where your car will run into dangerous conditions depending on what kind of set-up you have.

My car is stock except for header intake and exhaust and it is a base map from a stock 97 prelude. It should run fine, like normal with the base map. Anyone else?
Yea it should run like normal but it isn't.
I work with AEM units all the time and run one on my personal car. Either you have a wrong calibration file or your calibration file is garbage. If you are not running a wideband 02 gauge either I strongly recommend not running this ecu until you have access to one. Most calibration files are for 'start-up' only. I've ran into a few 'stock' files where they had some wierd stuff going on in both ign and fuel maps.

Go there and do some reading.

Thanks for the help. I'm asking the same question on AEM's forum. I just want to make sure I didn't buy a bunk unit because it was previously used.
Hook your wideband up then tune the car. Did you send a new stock calibration file to the ecu or are you using one that was already on it?

not to be an ******* but if ur car is stock then why get the ems?
i assume you got the laptop hooked up to it. you should be able to pull up a few screens and see that senors are functioning.
aslo look for "stat synched" during cranking which will tell you that your engine has found where it is (top dead center/cylinder position) after that it should create spark and fire injectors and at least something should happen.
as soon as the car is running the timing needs to be set immediately there should be a wizard for it. it could be that its just so far off that it wont even stay running. and when i say out of adjustment i mean the difference to what the computer thinks its outputting to what it actually is.
hope this helps

if you are still having problems over a year later, dont you think its time to hiring a competent tuner?
no one can spoon feed you how to tune a car, you read up on stuff and experiment and learn.
the basics of it is AFR, cruising AFR at 14.7ish, WOT at 13ish, etc etc. and the timining map, make sure u sync the distributor timing and the ems
those aem base maps are just that BASE maps, you dont expect your car to run like stock on them. u expect them to fire up, so u can adjsut all the settings and tune it to your particular motor. they are by no means plug and play.
it took me days to figure out the aem ems system way back in the day when they first came out.
