Default Transmission Decision...?!?

Ok, so I was having clutch related problems, so dropped the tranny, took it apart, found out that a spring in the clutch managed to get loose and wedge itself between the clutch and flywheel. So I bought a Fidanza Flywheel and Exedy Stage 1 Organic clutch, put that all in, and why the transmission is out though, I figured that could use some maintenance too. The fourth gear hasn't been working, blah blah, took it to a local transmission shop and they said that the 3rd/ 4th gear synchro is gone. This suprised me since they use the same synchro or whatever, and 3rd still works thought, but regardless. It's going to cost at least 400 to fix, so I'm unsure whether to have them order the synchro and put it back together or wait a little bit and just get a Type R transmission. I searched and found nothing, so I was wondering what the cheapest I can find both of the above listed parts for? The cheapest I've seen a Type R transmission so far is 1100 shipped, and then the 300 + Labor for the synchro. Anyone have prices, suggestions, or ideas? Thanks.

Depending on whether you have to buy a fourth gear as well, it could be anywhere between $250 to $350 for the parts (4th gear is about $90 to $100). The 3rd-4th synchro set includes the 3rd gear on GS-R transmissions.

I've never tried it before, but I've heard that you can use the ITR or '99-00 Si S4c 3rd-4th synchro set that doesn't include the 3rd gear. You save $60 that way. But, for $60 more, I'd just get the GS-R set that inludes the GS-R 3rd gear.

If you can get an ITR LSD for $400, you'll have $900 to $1000 into your GS-R transmission by the time you have it all installed, and you still won't get the closer and lower 2nd, 3rd, 4th, and 5th gear ratios.

My verdict is to buy a good, used '96-spec, or even better, a '98-spec, JDM ITR transmission.
